Legendary Fiat Premier Padmini
A very happy Republic day to you friends. Today’s holiday just came as a rescue to me, compensating that extra stress I took earlier this week. It was almost 9 am, still on the bed. I would have got up at 11 or 11.30 am if I did not get that call about the old Fiat cars lined near Ulsoor Lake, Bengaluru.
My co-brother called me from a temple near Ulsoor Lake (Bengaluru) to my surprise that he usually calls me only in the evening. He knows few things about me that I love vintage cars, photography and of course few pegs of Whiskey. After exchanging Republic day wishes…
They have parked so many fiat cars
Yes, all old ones! The Premier Padmini, all vintage.
It took a while for me to freshen up and reach Ulsoor Lake to check out the Fiats. By the time I reached the location, half the cars left. I suppose, the Fiat owners assembled there around 7 am.
We rarely get to see the Fiat 1100 on the city roads. There was a time when we saw these little ones extensively on the roads, during the 1980s and 90s.
The Premier Automobiles Limited manufactured and sold the Fiat 1100 Delight (later called Premier Padmini) cars in India from 1973 to 1998. Today it has become a collector’s item.
Did you know that the automobile company named the “Premier Padmini” after the 14th century Rajput Princess? The name Padmini means “she who sits on the lotus” and is the common name for the Hindu girls in India.
The proud owners of these cars display them here, in front of Lake View Ganesha Temple, near Ulsoor Lake once in a year. I guess, mostly during the Republic Day.
The sooner you go more cars you see.
